En 1863 se construyó la primera ermita, que en 1866 fue ascendida a filial de la Parroquia de Heredia y eleva al rango de Parroquia el 3 julio 1886.
La construcción del actual templo neogótico es responsabiliad del Párroco Rosendo de Jesús Benavides y del arquitecto Lesmes Jiménez.
El Templo fue consagrado por Monseñor Carlos Humberto Rodríguez Quirós, IV Arzobispo de San José, el 25 febrero 1962, siendo Párroco el presbítero Miguel Ángel Arguedas Molina.
